After you're drunk in the sights and sounds of the city, you're taken to the Deccan Odyssey and are all set to go on the luxury tour of a lifetime!
On your first day aboard the train, you'll wake up in the cradle of mountains and backwaters, Bhoke Station. A luxury bus whisks you off to Rai Bhatgaon Jetty where you can savor the calming silence of Maharashtra backwaters, even as the cry of a bird or two interrupts your reverie. Your destination is the Jaigad Fort, inaccessible by either road or rail. Clamber up the walls of the Fort and lose yourself in the vast view of the ocean.
It's then time for the sights and sounds of the countryside, as you take the road to Ganapatipule. The Konkan landscape calls to you with its bewitching array of picture-postcard tiled houses, earthy red soil and verdant greenery. A large number of people - tourists and devotees alike - flock to the Ganapati Temple here every year. Enjoy the sight of green coconut palms swaying in the gently salty breeze, pamper yourself with some Konkani food and music and take a walk down the beach.
Your next destination is Ratnagiri, and Alphonso mangoes aren't the only things you can look forward to here. A visit to the Ratnadurga Fort is on your itinerary here, before you are taken back to your luxury train.
Day 3 is a day of forts, beaches and a laid-back ride through the backwaters. You are taken to the Sindhudurg Fort and to the Ocean Fort of Sindhudurg. Your trip will include visits to small shrines dedicated to Bhavani, Mahadeo, Jarimari, Mahapurush and Shivaji. Here's where you can catch the salty spray of the sea on your face, even as you walk along the fort. You are then taken to Tarkarli, a picturesque hamlet complete with sailboats, shimmering sand and the warm sunny sea. After a short stop here, ride up the Tarkarli creek on a boat before traveling to Sawantwadi, a stone's throw away from Goa. At Sawantwadi, you are taken to see craftsmen at work at Shilpa Gram.
It's then time for the land of beaches, churches and feni - Goa. Your tour starts with a leisurely walk through the churches of Old Goa, moving on to the port city of Panjim. Your itinerary will include a stop at Dona Paula, before the Deccan Odyssey trundles along to Pune.
